What you will study

What you study

Expanded Museum Studies is a master's programme at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The register describes it as a study and research field for examining, expanding and reorienting the concept of the museum. You look critically at historical and current museum models. The museum is treated as a contact zone and a place of value in a broad sense, meaning all the practices, configurations, discourses and claims connected with it.

The programme combines museological, art and cultural studies, conservation and artistic research approaches. It is interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, and practice-oriented. Current scientific and artistic questions form the basis, along with the socially engaged concept of art and culture at the Angewandten, with a global and transcultural perspective.

What the register says
