About this programme

Bachelor in Software Engineering and Management is a bachelor’s programme at Graz University of Technology in Graz, taught in German and English. It runs for 3 years (6 semesters) and carries 180 ECTS credits. The register gives Graz as the campus town. It lists the academic degree as Bachelor of Science, BSc. Graz University of Technology is a public university in Styria.

What you will study

Software Engineering and Management at TU Graz is a bachelor's programme that mixes software development with business know-how. You learn how software is built, how data is organised and modelled, and how software systems work. You also pick up the economic side: planning, project management, cost management and quality management.

What you study

The programme is built around four areas. In Fundamentals you cover computer science basics and the maths behind it: analysis, discrete mathematics, numerical computing, linear algebra, probability theory and statistics. Software Engineering takes you from basic to advanced development, including system-oriented programming, programming languages, operating systems and software paradigms. You also look at human-computer interaction, computer graphics, machine vision, and virtual and augmented reality. Information Processing covers data management, data science, data structures and algorithms, plus how computers are built, programmed and networked. Information security focuses on cryptography and computer security. Management gives you project management and the legal and economic basics: business administration, accounting, business sociology, civil law and corporate law.

You do design exercises as small software projects, and you can join research projects for your bachelor's thesis.

How the programme is organised

It runs over 6 semesters and 180 ECTS, leading to a Bachelor of Science (BSc). The language of instruction is German, with many courses offered in English. So the programme is partly taught in English, and you should check which parts. Teaching mixes lectures with practical work: design exercises in small software projects, and the option to do your bachelor's thesis within a research project. Student teams such as LosFuzzys, Game Dev Students Graz, TU Graz Data Team, Graz BCI Racing Team - Mirage 91, TU Graz RoboCup Team GRIPS and TU Graz Field Robotics Team TEDUSAR let you work on IT topics outside the regular programme.

Who it suits

This is for you if you like expressing creativity, working in a team, and trying things out. You should want to develop software and be curious about the economic side of it. The programme connects theory with practice from early on, so you need to be comfortable with maths and abstract thinking. Graduates can think across disciplines and apply software solutions independently.

Admission, language and next steps

You need a school-leaving certificate or an international university entrance qualification. Admission periods are published on the programme page: for winter semester 2026/27 it runs from 6 July to 5 September 2026, and for summer semester 2027 from 11 January to 5 February 2027. International students must submit documents in advance. There is no central application portal; you apply directly to TU Graz. As a public university, EU/EEA and Swiss students pay no tuition within the standard duration plus two semesters, while other students pay a fee per semester. After graduating, you can go straight into a master's programme without further requirements in Computational Social Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering and Management, or Data Science, or apply internationally.
