Overview

An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master is a master's programme run by more than one higher education institution, spread across various countries. The consortium, not a single university, delivers the degree. Master's level students from all over the world can apply.

The catalogue on the European Education and Culture Executive Agency site lists the master's programmes currently supported by the European Union. It is updated annually. Treat it as the starting list, not the final word on any one programme.

Scholarships exist for outstanding students, but they are not automatic across the catalogue. Some programmes do not offer them, for example because they are reaching the end of their funding period or have been granted a temporary use of the Erasmus Mundus name after funding. Check the individual programme before you count on the money.

Timing matters. Most master's programmes take applications between October and January for courses starting the following academic year. If you are aiming at one of these, the application window sits early in the academic year, so the shortlist has to be ready before then.

For the details that decide an application, the catalogue entry is not enough. Go to the programme's own website and contact the consortium directly about courses, application procedures and whether a scholarship is on offer.
