What you will study

What you study

Fashion & Technology at the University of Arts Linz is a four-semester master's programme that sits where fashion meets technology. You work with design and critical reflection to open up emerging areas, the ones that come out of joining traditional fashion techniques and technologies with new technical disciplines.

The curriculum is artistic and scientific at once. It treats fashion as a cross-sectional subject and pushes you towards alternative concepts. Three things run through the whole programme: working in teams, engaging with sustainability on many levels, and building a qualification that covers an expanded idea of fashion. In practice that means handling a wide mix of analogue and digital methods, understanding materials and processes, and acting sustainably from design through materials and production conditions to distribution.

Teaching happens in practice-oriented workshops. You develop your projects there under the guidance of international experts from design, research, art and business.

Admission, language and next steps

The teaching language is English. There is an admission or aptitude procedure, so you do not simply enrol. Check the programme page for how that procedure works and when to apply. Applications go straight to the University of Arts Linz, not through a central portal, and the institution's own page gives the application period.

As a public university, EU/EEA and Swiss students pay no tuition within the standard duration plus two semesters. Other students pay a fee per semester. The programme carries 120 ECTS and leads to a Master of Arts, MA.

Students show their work regularly at international events, for example at Ars Electronica, at ASVOFF and at the Take Festival. That is worth knowing before you apply: public presentation is part of how the programme works.

What the register says
