What you will study

What you study

The Master's in International Management at the University of Klagenfurt is taught in English and covers the whole spectrum of management: marketing, innovation management, entrepreneurship, financing and accounting, operations management, international law and logistics, all in global contexts. You set your own priorities within management.

Required subjects include Principles of International Business, Principles of International Law, International Marketing, International Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, International Financial Management, and International Operations Management and Logistics. You also take Cultural Skills in SEE and CEE and Global Cultural Skills. Electives let you specialise in International Management, advanced cultural skills, and further advances in International Management.

Languages and intercultural skills are cornerstones of the programme. You can pick up additional languages from Spanish to Russian, from Slovenian to Chinese. A mandatory semester abroad is part of the degree, chosen from around 250 partner universities in 50 countries. At least one excursion and a short period of study in a Southeast European (SEE) or Central and Eastern European (CEE) country complement this.

You can also pursue the Double Degree in International Management with Excelia Business School in La Rochelle, France.

How the programme is organised

The degree runs over four semesters and 120 ECTS. The curriculum lists required subjects, electives and options, plus the master's thesis with two seminars (25 + 4 ECTS). Teaching mixes lectures (VO), courses with compulsory attendance (KS, VC, EX, SE) and seminars. Small seminar groups and manageable working groups are part of the campus setup.

You can replace the entire set of Options (9 ECTS) with a relevant work internship and an associated scientific reflection seminar. The internship can be in a domestic or foreign company, public administration, or a non-profit organisation, and must last at least 200 hours. There are also 200 hours of voluntary work experience if you want to get going while still at university.

The semester abroad is compulsory. Your native language must not be the same as the official language of the host country or the language of tuition during the stay. You must complete at least 18 ECTS credits abroad, and you are encouraged to choose courses from the free electives worth a total of 6 ECTS credits.

Who it suits

This programme suits students who want a management degree with a strong international and intercultural bent. It builds on a thorough understanding of culture, business and management, and prepares you for middle and senior management in companies and organisations that operate internationally. If you are curious about other cultures, willing to spend a semester abroad, and want to shape your own specialisation, this fits.

The programme is deliberately kept small, with a limited number of students. That means closer supervision and a quicker way to find friends and connections on campus.

Admission, language and next steps

To start the Master's in International Management you go through a special admission procedure. You need a relevant Bachelor's degree of at least 180 ECTS, proof of English fluency at C1 level, and basic knowledge in business studies: examinations in business management subjects with at least 24 ECTS credits at a post-secondary educational institution. If you cannot show those 24 ECTS credits, you take an admission test in English.

Applications go directly to the institution, not through a central portal. The programme's own page gives the application period. The online registration form asks for a motivation letter in English, an updated CV in English, proof of your completed Bachelor's degree, a transcript of records, proof of English proficiency, and proof of the required basic business knowledge. After the documents are examined, suitable candidates receive a notification of acceptance or rejection.

The teaching language is English. At a public university, EU/EEA and Swiss students pay no tuition within the standard duration plus two semesters; other students pay a fee per semester. The institution's own page has the details.
