What you will study

What you study

This is a business degree with an international and political edge. You cover internal company processes such as accounting and legal framework conditions, then go further into company foundation, location selection and export management. A central focus is how companies sit inside their economic, political and social environment, nationally and internationally. Courses in political economy, economic policy and global studies show you how business and politics interact.

In semester 3 you pick either a Chinese language and culture course or a German language course. In semesters 4 and 5 you choose from five electives: Business in a Global Economy, Business Development, Social Entrepreneurship, Controlling, Risk & Finance (taught in German), and Recht und Politik im internationalen Umfeld (taught in German). Compulsory elective languages are French, Russian and Spanish, and you can obtain an accredited language certificate.

The programme also includes courses such as Russia as a Global Player, Acting in a Multilevel Governance System, Business Analytics, Business English, a Business Simulation Game and Career Planning. You write a bachelor thesis in two parts and sit a bachelor exam in semester 6.

How the programme is organised

It is a full-time programme, Monday to Friday, daytime, at Campus Wohlmutstrasse in Vienna's 1020 district. Six semesters, 180 ECTS, leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Business, BA. The language of instruction is English, but some courses are taught in German, so check which parts before you apply.

Semester 4 is intended for a possible semester abroad at one of the partner universities. Semester 6 includes a traineeship worth 12 ECTS, where you apply what you have learned in a real workplace. Teaching mixes lectures with applied work: data analysis in spreadsheets, calculation models for company analysis and cost accounting, case studies, presentations and a business simulation game.

Who it suits

You should be comfortable with numbers and with politics. The programme asks you to analyse international business opportunities, understand interdisciplinary developments, develop business models and communicate decisions to national and international stakeholders. If you want a business degree that keeps asking how companies fit into the wider world, this fits. English at CEFR C1 is required, and your English is assessed in the admission test.

Admission, language and next steps

Admission is through an online multiple choice test covering reading comprehension, English, mathematics, business administration and a programme-specific section. You need an Austrian secondary school leaving certificate (Matura), a vocational matriculation qualification, the general university entrance examination for social and economics sciences, a foreign equivalent, or a relevant apprenticeship or BMS with additional examinations. A portfolio route exists for some vocational backgrounds. The programme recommends its own preparatory script; no external courses are required.

Applications go directly to the institution, not through a central portal. The application period for EU/EEA citizens runs from 1 October to 15 May, and for non-EU/EEA citizens from 1 October to 31 March. As a university of applied sciences, it sets its own tuition fee per semester, shown on the programme page, plus the student union fee. The programme is at NQR level 6. Graduates may enter relevant master programmes at universities and universities of applied sciences.
