What you will study

Digital Business at FHWien der WKW is a part-time bachelor's degree that sits where digital technology meets business. The programme calls itself "the Swiss army knife for digital transformation": you learn to judge technology by what it can do commercially, and to explain that to the people who pay for it.

What you study

The curriculum is split into blocks. Informatics takes 36 ECTS, business informatics 30 ECTS, business 36 ECTS, and communication and management 30 ECTS. The internship carries 24 ECTS, and research, development and the final exam another 24 ECTS.

Early semesters cover Introduction to Computer Science, Digital Business Models and Strategies, Information and Business Ethics and General Management. Later you meet Application Design and Development, Enterprise Architecture and IT Infrastructure, Business Data Analytics, Data Modeling and Databases, Business Process Management, Business and Information Law, IT Security and Compliance, Accounting and Business Planning.

Highlights named on the page include fundamentals of software development, working with cloud infrastructures, an introduction to database technologies and working with robots. A new specialisation option, "AI for Business", runs through Business Information Systems/AI-based Information Systems and Technology Assisted Work/AI-assisted Business. The business side is anchored in the Common Body of Competences (CBC), a shared content base across FHWien der WKW programmes.

How the programme is organised

It runs over six semesters and 180 ECTS, part-time. About 60 per cent of teaching is online on individual working days from 18:30. The other 40 per cent happens on campus on selected weekends, usually Fridays from 15:45 and Saturdays from 08:30 to 16:30. Hybrid participation in some face-to-face modules is possible.

Teaching mixes lectures, seminars, exercises and workshops with interactive business simulations, case studies and practical projects with partner companies. The page names two: "The future of automotive" with Deloitte Digital and "A digital eco-system" with Lijo. Each course combines on-campus sessions, live online teaching and self-study, and a timetable with dates and assessment criteria appears at the start of the semester.

The internship sits in the fifth semester. You can also spend the fourth semester abroad, or take the internship in the fifth semester instead.
