University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is a university of applied sciences in Upper Austria.

What you will study

Logistics is about getting goods from where they are made to where they are needed, sustainably and on time. This bachelor's degree at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, based at the Steyr campus, trains you for that work. The teaching language is German and English, and the programme is partly taught in English: full-time students take the first four semesters in English, then move to German for the last two. German training runs alongside the first four semesters.

What you study

The curriculum is grouped into four competence areas: professional competence logistics (85.5 ECTS), general management competence (34 ECTS), international competence (25.5 ECTS), and social and transfer competence (34 ECTS). You look at procurement and distribution, warehouse and inventory management, transport methods and how to cut their environmental impact, and data analysis for more sustainable logistics strategies. Teaching draws on the Logistikum, Austria's largest logistics research institute, which sits at the Steyr campus and feeds current research into classes.

How the programme is organised

It runs over six semesters and 180 ECTS, full time or part time. The full-time track is the one taught in English for the first four semesters. A semester abroad is mandatory in the third semester for full-time students with German at B2 or above, at one of over 100 partner universities worldwide. International students with German below B2 can do a voluntary semester abroad at a German-speaking university instead. Part-time students may also go abroad voluntarily in the third semester. In the sixth semester you complete an internship of at least 10 weeks in a related commercial sector. The part-time programme is taught in German, except the third semester, where many courses are in English.

Who it suits

You need an interest in how goods move, not prior subject knowledge. The programme suits school leavers with a university entrance qualification (Austrian Matura, German Abitur or equivalent) who want a practical business degree with an international edge. It also fits people already working who want to study part time in German. If your German is weak, the first four semesters give you room to build it up before the German-language final year.

Admission, language and next steps

You apply directly to the institution, not through a central portal. The application deadlines are 30 June for EU/EEA citizens, holders of a valid residence permit, or those who can enter visa-free, and 31 May for applicants who need a visa. Admission involves a test and an interview. English is required at B2 and German at A2, with certificates from recognised institutions such as the Goethe Institute. Applicants with little or no German should consider the UAS Upper Austria's International Foundation Program first. At a public university, EU/EEA and Swiss students pay no tuition within the standard duration plus two semesters; other students pay a fee per semester. Universities of applied sciences set their own fees, so check the institution's page.
