What you will study

What you study

This Master's programme combines digital technology with innovation. You take 48 ECTS of digital technology modules, 30 ECTS of interdisciplinary innovation modules, 6 ECTS on strategic management, 30 ECTS of research and development modules and a 6 ECTS final overall exam. The technology side covers two key areas: Cognitive Systems (machine learning, generative artificial intelligence, agentic artificial intelligence and data science) and Cyber-Physical Systems (Internet of Things, robotics, assistance systems and augmented reality). You learn to analyse and design complex digital information systems, build prototypes in agile teams and translate requirements into system concepts. On the innovation side you work on real challenges with companies or research partners, using agile and user-centred methods and design thinking. You also examine user needs, test assumptions and plan a market launch from economic, organisational and technical angles.

How the programme is organised

The programme is part-time and built for working professionals, including those in full-time jobs. About 60 % of lectures are online on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 pm. The other 40 % takes place on campus over eight weekends per semester (Fridays from 3:45 pm, Saturdays from 8:30 am). You study at wko campus wien in Vienna. Roughly 80 % of the programme is taught together with students from the Master's in Digital Innovation, so you work in teams with different academic and professional backgrounds. The second semester includes a multi-day international excursion. In the fourth semester, in certain cases, you may spend a semester abroad linked to your Master's thesis. The language of instruction is German and English, and you need at least C1 in both. You may submit presentations, written assignments and oral exams in either language.

Who it suits

You should have prior knowledge of information technology and technical implementation skills. The programme suits people who want to take technical responsibility in interdisciplinary teams and who are comfortable with a heavy workload alongside a job. You will learn to identify economic, strategic and user-related requirements and turn them into viable technical concepts. Teamwork is central: you will practise self-organisation, communication, feedback and sharing responsibility for results. The programme is for those who want to design complex digital systems and translate technological possibilities into economically, organisationally and socially viable innovations.
