It runs for 180 ECTS over six semesters, with a class size of about 30 students. The programme is built for recent high school graduates with no prior vocational training in tourism or hospitality.

What you study

The first year covers business basics: accounting and management control, maths and statistics, critical thinking and problem solving, advanced business communication, sustainability literacy for business, organisational behaviour and corporate social responsibility, academic writing, microeconomics, and marketing and consumer behaviour. In the second year you take HR management and management development, financial management and investment planning, macroeconomics, new media and e-business applications, marketing research and an empirical project, professional development, hotel industry analytics, principles of business law, and revenue management. The third year includes a bachelor thesis tutorial, entrepreneurship, innovation and business planning, digital transformation and artificial intelligence in business, and a specialisation course. You choose between two specialisations: Tourism Management and Development, or Hospitality Management. The programme also highlights destination management, customer service excellence, revenue and yield management, and tourism marketing strategies.

How the programme is organised

Teaching combines theory with practice. A compulsory internship of 960 hours is part of the degree, and the university provides support in securing a placement. Internships can be in hotel operations, event management, restaurant management, tourism marketing, resort operations, hospitality sales, or travel agencies. There is also an option to study abroad for a semester in New York. A dual-city option lets you complete two years at Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Tourism Management and earn two degrees, extending the programme to four years. The university says it is the only university in Austria with UN Tourism TedQual accreditation for all its tourism programmes.

Who it suits

It is not aimed at people who already have vocational qualifications in the field.
