What you will study

The Master's in Renewable Energy Engineering at UAS Technikum Wien is a part-time, English-taught programme of 120 ECTS over four semesters. It is about the energy system and how to change it: more renewables, smarter grids, and better links between generation and consumption.

What you study

The curriculum is built around energy technology and economics. You learn to analyse complex energy systems, from single facilities to whole cities or neighbourhoods, and to propose solutions. That includes adapting heating, cooling and electricity networks for decentralised generation while keeping supply secure and of good quality. You look at storage technologies and how to size and integrate them into grids. On the economic side, you work on supply and demand side management for electricity, heating, cooling and gas, and on optimising generation plants from an economic and ecological point of view. You also quantify how building renovation affects the overall energy system and assess the ecological impacts of energy-related interventions.

How the programme is organised

It is part-time. Courses run on three to four weekdays, usually from 5:50 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Fridays from 4:10 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The exact days and times for each course are announced at the start of the semester. Remote learning elements are included, and there is the option of a semester abroad, with semesters 2, 3 and 4 recommended for it. The semester starts at the beginning of September. The programme is taught in English, subject to accreditation by AQ Austria.

Who it suits

This master's is for people who already have a bachelor's degree and want to specialise in energy systems. You need a bachelor's from a university of applied sciences in a relevant subject, or an equivalent degree from a recognised post-secondary institution, with at least 180 ECTS. If you are missing a few prerequisites, the programme director can require you to take exams during the master's to establish full equivalence. The part-time schedule suits students who need to fit study around other commitments.
