About Danube Private University

Danube Private University is a private university in Krems an der Donau, in Lower Austria. It was accredited as a private university by the Austrian Accreditation Council on 13 August 2009. The city connection runs deep: the president of the DPU was made an honorary citizen of Krems, and the mayor described the university as a jewel in the city's crown.

The teaching is built around health and communication. The university provides education in dentistry, medicine, dental hygiene and medical journalism. Undergraduate degrees include Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Medicine, and Medical Journalism & Public Relations. Postgraduate degrees include Master of Science specialties in dentistry and a scientific doctorate in dentistry. The first cohort graduated from the dental medicine programme in 2015. A master's degree in medicine was accredited by AQ Austria and is offered at a second DPU location in Wiener Neustadt, supported by the Lower Austrian State Health Agency together with the Hochegg, Neunkirchen and Wiener Neustadt state hospitals.

The campus has grown around former railway land. An outpatient dental clinic with around 50 treatment spots opened on the campus site in 2012. A research centre and an additional building followed in 2017 on the former site of the Förthof railway station, housing lecture halls, hands-on training facilities, an auditorium and research labs. The campus now covers around 15,000 m². Research areas listed by the university include neurodegenerative diseases, medical image analysis and artificial intelligence, life science technologies, clinical application of artificial intelligence in dentistry, microplastics, and the natural and cultural history of mankind. The DPU cooperates through ERASMUS+ and the International Union of Schools of Oral Health, and works with partners including the Austrian Institute of Technology, Charité Berlin, INSERM Paris and the University of Cambridge.

The national register lists the DPU as a Privatuniversität, a private university, seated in Krems an der Donau. It records 7 programmes of all kinds and languages, of which 1 is English-taught: a PhD or doctorate. The register does not state the subjects taught.

For an international student, the practical points are these. You apply directly to the DPU, which sets its own application period and entrance procedure. Students from outside the EU/EEA need a Residence Permit, Student. The tuition rules for public universities, with no tuition for EU/EEA and Swiss students within the standard duration plus two semesters and a per-semester fee for most others, are rules for public universities; the DPU is private. Every student pays the student union fee.

Fees are in euros as the register lists them. A programme with no figure in the register is "not listed" on its page, never free. At a public university, no tuition for EU/EEA/Swiss students applies within the standard duration plus two semesters, not for ever.
