What you will study
What you study
NARMEE is a joint master's run by BOKU in Vienna, the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and Lincoln University in Canterbury, New Zealand. The programme covers five thematic fields: agro-municipal resources management; ecological engineering and risk management; nature conservation and biodiversity management; global resources and sustainability management; and the human dimension and socio-economic aspects of sustainable development.
You study the sustainable management, planning and design of natural resources, the biogeochemical cycles behind them, landscapes and environments, ecological engineering, and business for sustainability. The focus is on the big challenges of a crowded world: degrading environments and competition for declining resources.
How the programme is organised
It runs over four semesters and 120 ECTS, ending in an MSc. Teaching is in English. The curriculum, course list and equivalence catalogue sit on the programme page, so you can see the actual modules before you apply. The international set-up means part of your study is shaped by the cooperation between the three partner institutions, not by BOKU alone.
Who it suits
It suits you if you want to work across disciplines on resource use, ecological engineering and sustainability, and if an international classroom appeals. The programme speaks to people aiming at consultancies, international organisations, NGOs, development agencies, government environmental departments or research. A background in natural resources, environmental engineering or a related field fits the content; check the admission page for the exact entry requirements.
Admission, language and next steps
Teaching is in English. Applications go directly to BOKU, not through a central portal; the programme page gives the application period and the documents you need. As a public university, BOKU charges no tuition to EU/EEA and Swiss students within the standard duration plus two semesters. Other students pay a fee per semester. The coordinator is Assoc. Prof. Priv.Doz.DI Dr.nat.techn. Eva Oburger, and the curricular committee is chaired by Assoc. Prof. Priv.-Doz. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Michael Tritthart. Start with the curriculum and course list on the BOKU page, then contact the coordinator with specific questions.
What the register says
“Natural Resources Management and Ecological Engineering” is an interdisciplinary, strongly internationally oriented double degree programme. It contains contents of the fields of land and water management, mountain risk engineering, forestry, and environmental and (bio) resources management. Moreover aspects of social sciences, law and economic sciences are included in the teaching. One focus is on nature-related process knowledge, which is important both for management and engineering tasks. In specific, qualifications in integral risk management, environmental engineering, nature protection and wildlife management as well as international economic management and sustainability are taught. Graduates can use their expertise especially also in international environmental associations and organisations, e.g. the European Commission, but also in planning offices and in teaching and research. The medium of instruction is English.
