What you will study

Technical Management at Hochschule Campus Wien is a part-time master's degree for people who want to lead technology-driven projects and teams. It sits at the meeting point of strategic management and technical expertise. The programme is taught entirely in English and runs over four semesters (120 ECTS).

What you study

The programme has a clear two-phase structure. The first year builds your base in management, leadership, strategy and organisational development. You work through subjects such as Advanced Project Management, Advanced Business English and Law and Organisation, with financial management and legal frameworks part of the mix. The aim is to prepare you for roles as a general manager, department head, or project and product manager.

In the third semester you pick a specialisation: Information Technology or Sustainable Energy and Environmental Technologies. This is not about micro-specialisation. It gives you a high-level industrial overview so you can manage technical innovation and expert teams. The fourth semester rounds off that technical work and puts the Master's Thesis at the centre. You are encouraged to write it with your current employer, solving a real business challenge under academic supervision. You can also join interdisciplinary research projects, and strong students are supported in publishing their findings.

The Information Technology track includes project work, for example developing a highly parametrizable traffic simulation system that models roads, crossings, traffic lights, footpaths, bikeways and trolley cars, and analyses situations such as congestion, accidents or roadworks.

How the programme is organised

It is part-time, so it fits around a job. Teaching uses a hybrid model: practical lectures on campus combined with online workshops. Courses use case studies, group work, presentations and distance learning elements. You can add industry certifications while studying, such as PMA Project Management Austria or the Process Management Certificate. The third and fourth semesters are the window for study abroad, from a full semester at a partner university to a one-to-two-week international exchange.

Who it suits

This is for people with a technical bachelor's who want to move toward leadership, team management, entrepreneurship or business consulting. You need a completed bachelor's degree of 180 ECTS, including at least 40 ECTS in technical and scientific subjects (electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, physics, mechatronics), 5 ECTS in technical management basics such as project, process or quality management, and 5 ECTS in business or foreign languages. The head of the degree programme decides on exceptional cases. HCW's own bachelor's programmes in Applied Electronics, Technical Informatics, Computer Science and Digital Communications, High Tech Manufacturing and Clinical Engineering meet the requirement.

Admission, language and next steps

English at CEFR level B2 is required, proven by a school leaving certificate, an English-language school, at least 6 ECTS or 150 hours of English courses, an IB Diploma, or a certificate such as TOEFL, IELTS Academic, Cambridge or the Oxford Test of English. Applications go directly to the institution through its online platform, where you upload your documents. There are 40 study places. After the documents are reviewed, suitable candidates are invited to a video call interview about motivation, background and career plans. Foreign documents may need legalisation and translation by a sworn interpreter. As a university of applied sciences, HCW sets its own tuition fee per semester, plus the ÖH contribution; check the programme page for the current amounts and application period.
