What you will study

This part-time Master's in Business Psychology & Management at MCI in Innsbruck is taught in English and mixes online live sessions with face-to-face Skills Labs on campus. It is built for people who keep working while they study.

What you study

The programme combines management theory, business psychology, organisational behaviour, financial literacy and research skills at master's level. You also take inter- and cross-disciplinary projects, and the stated aim is to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Graduates should be able to define business psychology and managerial problems, then identify, analyse, design and implement solutions.

MCI lists clear learning goals. You should end up applying advanced concepts in management and organisational behaviour, translating business psychology insights into practical strategies, and predicting and managing human behaviour in organisations to some extent. Teamwork in intercultural settings and communication skills are part of the picture too.

How the programme is organised

It runs over four semesters and 120 ECTS. The format is blended learning. Online live classes are scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday evenings after 5:30 p.m., with online coaching sessions and flexible self-study phases around them. Face-to-face Skills Labs take place on the MCI campus in Innsbruck, usually three consecutive days, adding up to 15 to 20 days across the whole degree.

In the first semester there is an introductory event where you meet the programme team and your peers and get set up with MCI Study (the web conferencing system) and Sakai (the learning management system). You can also spend the third semester abroad at a partner university; MCI names the University of Jyväskylä in Finland, IPADE Business School in Mexico and NIDA in Thailand among its partners.

Who it suits

Working professionals and people with other commitments, including care work, who want to prepare for demanding management tasks. The evening schedule and the limited number of campus days are meant to make that possible. It also suits graduates of economics-focused bachelor's programmes who want to add psychological expertise to their management knowledge.

Admission, language and next steps

Teaching is in English. The entry requirement is a relevant bachelor's degree with an economics focus, such as Business Administration, or a relevant university degree in economics lasting at least six semesters. Graduates of other degrees can also be admitted if their curriculum covers at least 60 ECTS in business administration and strategic management, accounting, controlling and financing, organisation, personnel and change, economics, and psychology (up to 10 ECTS). If you are short of ECTS, MCI's eStudy programme offers single courses of 5 ECTS or business administration compact courses of 20 ECTS, all online.

Applications go directly to MCI and are accepted on a rolling basis, with several dated rounds listed on its page. Step one is an online application with CV, letter of motivation and details of your education, career, social achievements and goals. Step two is a recorded video interview through Kira Talent, with one minute of preparation per question and one to one and a half minutes to answer. You need to record within a window MCI sets, which can run from one to two weeks. MCI says it informs applicants of the admission decision within three weeks of the interview. You may apply for more than one MCI programme if you explain your motivation for each.
