About Kufstein University of Applied Sciences
Kufstein University of Applied Sciences is a university of applied sciences in Kufstein, a town of about 20,000 people in the Tyrolean Unterland region of Tyrol. It sits on the river Inn near the border with Bavaria, between the Brandenberg Alps and the Kaiser Mountains. The town's landmark is Kufstein Fortress, first mentioned in the 13th century, and the old centre has lanes such as Römerhofgasse. Innsbruck, Salzburg and Munich airports are all within reach, and Kufstein railway station lies on the Brenner axis from Munich to Verona.
The institution was founded in 1997. Wikipedia describes it as specialising in business education and as a centre for international exchange. The town itself has a long history as a trading and docking point on the Inn, and that commercial character fits an institution built around business subjects.
Teaching is organised into degree programmes at Bachelor's and Master's level. The subjects taught are International Business, Marketing, Data Science, Energy and Renewable Engineering, Engineering, Psychology, Sports Science and Real Estate. The mix puts business next to technical and energy topics, with psychology and sport alongside them.
The Austrian study programme register lists the institution in the Fachhochschule category, that is, as a university of applied sciences. It records 19 programmes of all kinds and languages, of which 10 are English-taught: 4 Bachelor's and 6 Master's. The OeAD directory also lists the institution for study in Austria.
For an international student, the practical points are these. You apply directly to the institution, which sets its own application period and entrance procedure, so check its website for the dates that apply to your programme. Students from outside the EU and EEA need a Residence Permit for Students. At public universities, EU and EEA students and Swiss students pay no tuition within the standard duration of study plus two semesters, while most other students pay a per-semester fee. Every student pays the student union fee.
Kufstein is a small town, so daily life is quiet and the campus is easy to reach on foot. The border with Germany is close, which makes weekend trips simple. If you want a business-focused programme with a strong international exchange side, this is worth a look.
The register in numbers
Fees are in euros as the register lists them. A programme with no figure in the register is "not listed" on its page, never free. At a public university, no tuition for EU/EEA/Swiss students applies within the standard duration plus two semesters, not for ever.
