About Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences
Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule Vorarlberg) is a university of applied sciences in Dornbirn, in the western Austrian region of Vorarlberg. It started in 1989 as the Technical School, Vorarlberg, and its charter from the beginning was to offer degree programmes with a direct link to work practice.
The institution is closely tied to the business and industry of Vorarlberg, a region with many companies that are world leaders or among the world leaders in their fields. That connection shows up in internships for students and in research contracts from industry. Teaching covers Business, Engineering, Design and Social Work, and the Wikipedia entry lists a Josef-Ressel-Center for microtechnology on site.
The national register lists 17 programmes of all kinds and languages, with one English-taught degree programme: a Master's in International Business. The register category is Fachhochschule, and the institution's type is university of applied sciences.
For an international student, the practical points are these. You apply directly to the institution, which sets its own application period and entrance procedure, so check its website for the dates and requirements. Students from outside the EU/EEA need a Residence Permit, Student. At public universities, EU/EEA and Swiss students pay no tuition within the standard duration of study plus two semesters, while most other students pay a per-semester fee. Every student also pays the student union fee.
The register in numbers
Fees are in euros as the register lists them. A programme with no figure in the register is "not listed" on its page, never free. At a public university, no tuition for EU/EEA/Swiss students applies within the standard duration plus two semesters, not for ever.
